More than 500 student organizations and clubs are operating in Northwestern University. All undergraduate students have the option to live in residence halls, residential colleges, residential communities, and special-interest housing. Nearly every first-year student chooses to live in residential buildings and nearly 70% of the undergraduate population lives on campus.

There are three different housing models for our residential buildings: residence halls, residential communities, and residential colleges. One of the main differences between these models is the degree of faculty involvement options.

There are 13 traditional residence halls on campus, 2 residential communities on campus and 11 residential colleges on campus, ranging from 40 to nearly 300 students.

Besides, there is special interest housing is for students who choose to live with others who share a special academic or personal interest. A special interest housing group may be located on a wing of a residence hall or have "exclusive use" of a small house.

Regardless of the style of housing, the University provides one of each of the following in undergraduate housing: desk, desk chair, twin bed (with a twin extra long mattress), closet or dresser, wastebasket.

95% of students are employed, freelancing, or continuing their education six months after graduation in 2016. Among the companies that employ NU students are companies such as Google, McKinsey & Co, IBM, Facebook.

In 2016, tuition for full-time students in degree programs is about $50,500 per year. Weighted average cost of a double room on campus and board is about $15,500 per year. Fees including Loan fee, Health fee, Associated Student Government fee, Athletic fee cost about $430 a year. Also, approximate books and supplies costs are $1,700 and personal expenses are $2,500. Thus, total expenses are to be about $70,500 per year.

Need-based financial aid is available to international students seeking undergraduate degrees. 62% of undergraduates receive financial aid. Besides, approximately 51 percent of undergraduates receive a Northwestern University scholarship, which does not need to be repaid.

On May 31, 1850, nine men gathered to begin planning a university that would serve the Northwest Territory of the United States of America. Given that they had little money, no land and limited higher education experience, their vision was ambitious. But through a combination of creative financing, shrewd politicking, religious inspiration and an abundance of hard work, the founders of Northwestern University were able to make that dream a reality.

Today Northwestern University (NU) is a private research university based in Evanston, Illinois, with campuses in Chicago, Illinois, San Francisco, California and Doha, Qatar. Among Northwestern University's more notable alumni are U.S. Senator and presidential candidate George McGovern, Nobel Prize-winning economist George J. Stigler, Nobel Prize-winning novelist Saul Bellow, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and diarist Ned Rorem.

Northwestern is renowned for its law, medicine, journalism and art programs. It offers roughly 190 majors at six prominent undergraduate schools. Northwestern follows a quarter system, where students have three 10-week terms.
